Created this blog to rant about my software projects. Might even rant about other things too. This blog is more like a diary rather than a "blog". Don't know why anyone would read this but, ok.

My current project is one I named "Nym". Name is definitely subject to change but is rooted in the project's history. Nym is essentially location based social media. Users post and anyone close enough to where that post was made can see it when they open the app. It will also have a section dedicated entirely for promotional posts made by businesses. The premise is kinda similar to the now defunct Yik Yak and borrows elements from apps that try to show deals and events happening around you. 

I got this idea when I was bored in a mall one day and was tired of browsing reddit's front page for the billionth time. I was thinking about shops or places around there that I could go to to pass the time, and wondered why there wasn't a flyer or some bulletin board advertising sales, discounts, promotional items for the various places around.

Anyways, I came back to working on this project after a month long hiatus. The app was originally going to resemble Yik Yak even more, bringing back quick and easy anonymous local communication. I then realized that local communication has more uses than for people to gossip, it can help connect communities, promote local businesses, and spread local news and happenings.

Unfortunately, an app like Nym won't see much use during this pandemic. I am currently living in Indonesia, and lockdowns have been extended. But if I work on this thing enough and polish it, maybe it will find some use when things start going back to normal. One can only hope.
